AROUND THE DIVISION

BOSTON: The Bruins made headlines Thursday, trading centers Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley and defenseman Ryan Button to the Dallas Stars for wing Loui Eriksson and prospects Joe Morrow, Matt Fraser and Reilly Smith. Boston is looking to restock its cupboards, as the team is likely to lose wings Nathan Horton and Jaromir Jagr in unrestricted free agency. - http://bruins.nhl.com/club/blogpost.htm?id=18890

The Bruins are also close to signing goaltender Tuukka Rask to a long-term contract extension, according to Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli. - http://bruins.nhl.com/club/blogpost.htm?id=18904&navid=DL|BOS|home

MONTREAL: After the Philadelphia Flyers used one of its two compliance buyouts on Daniel Briere, the 35-year-old forward had his choice of teams to play for. Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said Tuesday that he had contacted Briere’s agent about a possible return to Buffalo. Briere, however, decided to play in his home province of Quebec, as he agreed to a two-year deal with the Canadiens on Thursday. Briere called choosing Montreal an “emotional decision.”

TORONTO: Mikhail Grabovski will become an unrestricted free agent. The Maple Leafs placed the 29-year-old center on unconditional waivers Thursday with the intention of using their second compliance buyout on him. Grabovski was held to 16 points in 48 games last season after scoring at least 20 goals in each of the two previous seasons. - http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=676500&navid=DL|TOR|home

Toronto also announced Wednesday that they would use their first compliance buyout on defenseman Mike Komisarek. - http://blog.mapleleafs.com/leafs-use-compliance-buyout-on-komisarek/

OTTAWA: The NHL’s Coach of the Year is staying in Ottawa. The Senators signed reigning Jack Adams Award winner Paul MacLean to a three-year contract extension Thursday. The deal will begin at the end of the upcoming season.

MacLean has been a finalist for the Jack Adams Award in each of his two seasons with the Senators. In his two years behind the Ottawa bench, he has compiled a record of 66-48-16 in 130 regular-season games, qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs both times. - http://senators.nhl.com/club/blogpost.htm?id=18908&navid=DL|OTT|home

FLORIDA: Stephen Weiss might be leaving the Panthers, but could stay within the division. Weiss, Florida’s all-time leader in games played, is set to become an unrestricted free agent Friday afternoon and the veteran of 11 NHL seasons could wind up in Detroit. - http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/07/04/3485425/stephen-weiss-time-with-florida.html

DETROIT: Red Wings general manager Ken Holland confirmed that he has been in contact with the agents of several upcoming unrestricted free agents including Weiss, Matt Cullen and Mike Ribeiro. Holland is working on re-signing Valtteri Filppula, Daniel Cleary and Damien Brunner, but said he will look to the free agent market if deals with those players can’t be reached. - http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=676532&navid=DL|DET|home

Detroit will also use one of its two compliance buyouts on defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo. The Red Wings placed Colaiacovo on unconditional waivers Wednesday. - http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=676419&navid=DL|DET|home
