Five Sabres prospects are among the 42 players invited to take part in the U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp, set for August 2-9 in Lake Placid, NY. The camp will serve as an audition for the 2015 World Junior Championship set for Toronto and Montreal this Christmas.
West Seneca-native Sean Malone leads a group of four future Sabres at the forward position, joining J.T. Compher, Connor Hurley and Hudson Fasching. Defenseman Anthony Florentino was the lone Buffalo prospect among the 14 blueliners invited.
Chicago (3) and Phoenix (2) are the only two other teams with multiple invitees.
Other notable names on the invite list include Alex Tuch, Sonny Milano and Nick Schmaltz – a trio of forwards expected to be selected in the first round of next week’s NHL Entry Draft. There are seven returnees from the 2014 U.S. World Jr. team that finished fifth in Sweden, including 2014 draft-eligible goaltender Thatcher Demko, and forward Jack Eichel, projected as one of the top two picks in the 2015 Draft.
The eight-day camp will be held at the Lake Placid Olympic Center, and the U.S. players will practice and compete in games against Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic.
