UNLIKELY HEROES

Buffalo 3 - NY Rangers 1
Tuesday, March 12, 2013
First Niagara Center

GAME RECAP
A pair of unlikely heroes took centerstage on Tuesday for the Buffalo Sabres in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers at First Niagara Center. Goaltender Jhonas Enroth made 32 saves to earn his first win since November 26, 2011, and Marcus Foligno, after being on a 20-game scoring drought, scored two goals to lead Buffalo to consecutive wins for the first time this season.

The scoring began in the second period on Derek Stepan’s shorthanded goal. Stepan was camped in front of the Buffalo net and slammed home the feed from Ryan Callahan to put the Rangers up 1-0. Just 78 seconds later the Sabres would tie the game on Foligno’s second goal of the season. Christian Ehrhoff’s point shot went wide of the Rangers net and Foligno grabbed the puck from below the line and pulled it between his legs to stuff it into the net. Ehrhoff and Andrej Sekera got the assists on the goal. Later in the period, Thomas Vanek scored his 14th goal of the season on a beautiful breakaway pass off the boards from Jason Pominville. Foligno would add another goal in the third to seal the victory.

The Sabres improve to 10-14-3 (23 points) on the season which puts them in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. They will try to stretch their home winning streak to three games on Saturday in an afternoon start against Ottawa.
