The captain rotation is gone. In a surprise move, head coach Lindy Ruff announced Wednesday at a post-scrimmage press conference that Chris Drury and Daniel Briere have been named co-Captains for the entire 2005-06 season.
The "C" will not be rotated based upon performance as it was during 2003-04.
Ruff cited both of the forwards' determination, leadership, drive and motivation as reason for the appointment.
Both Drury and Briere served as captain at one time or another during the 2003-04 season. Briere served for the month of February (2004), while Drury wore the "C" in November (2003) and (March 2004).
In 82 games during the 2003-04 season, Briere led the team in points (65) and was tied for the lead in assists (37) with line mate, Jochen Hecht. He ranked second in goals (28).
Drury appeared in 76 games during the 2003-04 season, ranking third in assists (35) and tied for third in points (53). He also added 18 goals.
The alternate captain is yet to be determined.
