Sabres Sign Drew Stafford
Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the team has agreed to terms on a three-year deal with Drew Stafford, Buffalo's first-round selection (13th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 204 lb. right winger played three seasons with the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, scoring 118 points (48+70) in 120 games. The 20-year-old native of Faribault, Minn., posted career highs in 2005-06 by scoring a team-leading 24 goals and 48 points in 42 games. He also led the NCAA with seven shorthanded goals.

Stafford led North Dakota to consecutive berths in the NCAA Frozen Four in 2005 and 2006, and was named as Team USA's most outstanding player in the 2005 World Junior Championships. He also won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2004 World Junior Championships.

Stafford is currently playing with the U.S. Men's National Team at the World Championships in Riga, Latvia, and is the only collegian player on the roster.
