Sabres Select Harvard-bound Biega

June 24, 2006

With the 147th pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, the Buffalo Sabres selected defenseman Alex Biega.

Biega (5'10'', 191 lbs.) is a player whose game will improve from the new NHL. He compensates for a lack of size with blazing speed and a tough-as-nails attitude.

Biega appeared in 28 games for Salisbury High School during the 2005-06 season, scoring 10 goals and 27 points, while posting 51 penalty minutes. During his senior season, Biega helped the Crimson Knights win the New England championship, and earned the Roswell H. Rudd Hockey Award for the team MVP.

He has committed to play collegiate hockey at Harvard University for the 2006-07 season.
