Briere\'s Award Accepted

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today that the club has accepted an arbitrator's decision to award Daniel Briere a one-year, $5 million contract. Briere had his case heard on July 20, and was awarded the contract on July 23.

The 28-year-old Briere collected 58 points (25+33) in 48 regular season games for Buffalo last season. Despite missing 32 games with a sports hernia injury, the Sabres co-captain was fourth on the team in scoring, and was tied for second in goals (25), power play goals (11) and game winning goals (4).

Briere posted a team-leading 19 points (8+11) in the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including an NHL-best two overtime game-winning goals, against Philadelphia (Game 1, ECQF vs. Philadelphia) and Carolina (Game 6, ECF vs. Carolina).

Since being acquired in a trade from Phoenix on March 11, 2003, Briere has scored 135 points (60+75) in 144 games with the Sabres. Briere has 281 points (130+151) in 402 career games.
