August 30, 2006

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed a two-year deal with restricted free agent defenseman Dmitri Kalinin.

In 55 games last season with Buffalo, the 26-year-old Kalinin (6-foot-3, 206 lbs.) picked up 18 points (2+16) and was a team-high plus-14 despite missing 23 games due to injury.

Kalinin had two points (0+2) in Buffalo's first eight games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, before suffering a broken foot in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Ottawa on May 8.

The native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, has led Sabres defensemen in goals in two of the past three season. He posted career highs in goals (10), assists (24) and points (34) during the 2003-04 season.

Kalinin, Buffalo's first-round selection (18th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, has 108 points (26+82) in 338 career games with the Sabres.
