SabreKidz Picnic Fun

September 11, 2006

Smiles were abundant on Saturday afternoon as the second annual SabreKidz Picnic rolled through a rainless afternoon at The Corn Maize.

More than 600 people attended the event that featured a Sabretooth inflatable slide, corn cannon, hayrides, a pumpkin patch and the maize itself.

"We were very excited to have another fall picnic for our SabreKidz members at the Corn Maize," said Sabres Manager of Community Relations, Rich Jureller. "It's a great opportunity for our members and their families to spend a day together enjoying the different activities at the Maize, and to see some of our players in a different setting than on the ice."

Parents helped their children navigate the labyrinth-style maze, while Sabres defenseman Dmitri Kalinin and lovable mascot, Sabretooth, were on hand signing autographs.

"Some of the day's best moments came while watching both the kids and parents enjoying themselves," Jureller added. "I think some of the parents may have even had more fun than their kids."

Set away from the road in a dense cornfield off Niagara Falls Blvd. in North Tonawanda, the Corn Maize is a portion of one of the world's largest cornfield maze companies.

After its inception in Utah in 1996, The Maize has grown to more than a 1,000 different locations, holds a Guinness record and hosts more than a million people annually.

The SabreKidz Club, created during the 2003-04 season, was designed to foster the love of hockey in the youngest generation of Sabres fans. The only official kids club of the Buffalo Sabres consists of boys and girls ages 12 and under. Members receive exclusive benefits such as SabreKidz merchandise, invitations to SabreKidz Club special events, a membership ID card and much more.
