Sabres Win Marathon Shootout
It took an eleven-round shootout between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins before a winner was finally decided Saturday night at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario.

Clarke MacArthur's wrist shot beat Pittsburgh goaltender Dany Sabourin to end a marathon shootout and give Buffalo a 3-2 victory.

Trailing 2-0 after one period of play, Buffalo scored once in the second and once more in the third period to force overtime.

Pittsburgh opened the scoring at 12:05 of the first period when Nils Ekman's shot from the point found its way through traffic and snuck inside the right post. Kristopher Latang and Sidney Crosby picked up the assists.

The Penguins went up 2-0 as Latang scored a power play goal with under a minute remaining in the first period. Controlling the puck behind the Buffalo net, Crosby fed a perfect pass in front to Latang, who one-timed it past Ryan Miller. Latang and Crosby each picked up their second point of the night, while Colby Armstrong also got credit for an assist.

Buffalo scored its first goal of the night as Henrik Tallinder worked a give-and-go with Jochen Hecht and roofed a shot over Dany Sabourin to make it a 2-1 game. Toni Lydman also got an assist on the goal.

The Sabres tied the game when Jason Pominville knocked in a rebound during a goal-mouth scramble at 6:07 of the third period, as Jiri Novotny and Dmitri Kalinin each got an assist.

Neither team scored in overtime as Buffalo outshot Pittsburgh three to one in the extra frame.

After Crosby scored in the second round of the shootout, Thomas Vanek kept Buffalo alive by netting a goal in round three. That was followed by seven straight scoreless rounds, as each goalie made dazzling saves to extend the contest. MacArthur finally ended the game in the eleventh round.

Miller picked up his first win of the preseason, stopping 17 shots. Dany Sabourin made 44 saves for Pittsburgh.
