Buffalo Sabres right wing Maxim Afinogenov was named the NHL's First Star for the week ending on October 22.
Afinogenov led all scorers for the week, posting 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in three games. He tallied at least one goal and one assist in each of the Sabres' three victories as Buffalo stretched its season-opening winning streak to eight games.
On Oct. 17, Afinogenov tallied one goal and four assists in a 9-1 home-ice win over Philadelphia. He scored one goal and two assists in a 5-4 win over Carolina, Oct. 20 and pushed his goal-scoring streak to four games with one goal and one assist in a 6-2 win at Boston, Oct. 21.
Afinogenov leads all NHL scorers with 14 points (5-9--14) in eight games.
