A Lonely Bench
The Buffalo Sabres coaching staff and front office are in the process of grading the team's current situation. With Henrik Tallinder out due to injury and Nathan Paetsch serving as his replacement on the blueline, Buffalo has exactly 18 skaters available each night.

Add to the fact that several Sabres are nursing minor injuries, and Buffalo may be forced to make a roster move before Thursday's game at Boston.

"We'll get to Wednesday and take a look where we are," said head coach Lindy Ruff. "We really haven't made a decision either way."

Three players were nursing various bumps and bruises on Monday, forcing them to miss practice: Thomas Vanek (sore wrist); Jaroslav Spacek (Charley Horse); and Derek Roy (groin/hip flexor).

"We've got an opportunity where we can give them an extra day [of rest], so we decided to go light today," said Ruff of the trio's absence.

If the team looks down the I-90 for reinforcements, several players could be potential candidates for promotions. Clarke MacArthur leads the Amerks in scoring with eight points (3+5) in nine games, Drew Stafford - drafted in the first-round (13th overall) in 2004 - is tied for the team lead with four goals, and Daniel Paille is tied for the team lead in assists with five.

On the blueline, Mike Card has posted 18 penalty minutes in nine games to accompany a plus-one rating, while Michael Funk has spent 12 minutes in the penalty box and boasts a plus-4 rating. Neither player has scored thus far.
