Connolly Progressing To Practice

March 21, 2007
by Brian Wheeler

Tim Connolly may be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. While Connolly still has a ways to go before returning to the Buffalo Sabres lineup, there is now real hope that the talented center could be back in time for playoffs.

"Tim Connolly skated for about a half an hour," said head coach Lindy Ruff following his team's morning skate on Wednesday. "If it goes on pace, we'll probably get him in some practices next week I hope."

Connolly has missed all 72 of Buffalo's games this season after Ottawa's Peter Schaefer knocked him out of last season's playoffs.

The Syracuse, N.Y. native has been dealing with post-concussion symptoms since the open-ice collision. His comeback was slightly delayed when he suffered a stress fracture below his knee during an off-ice workout on Feb. 13.

Connolly posted career highs in goals (16), assists (39) and points (55) in 63 games during the 2005-06 regular season. He was one of Buffalo most prolific scorers in last season's playoffs before being injured, registering five goals and six assists for 11 points in eight games.
