Monday's practice was another step in the right direction for injured center Tim Connolly. After skating in the team's two morning skates this past weekend, Connolly went through a full practice for the first time this season.
"It's some good news," said Connolly. "It's good to be out there and skating with the team. Just kind of easing my way back into the swing of things here."
The Sabres went through about an hour and a half workout with various one-on-one and team drills along with conditioning sprints. It was a hard enough practice for those who are injury free, let alone someone who hasn't skated a lot.
"He's got sore muscles," said head coach Lindy Ruff. "I thought he started the practice real well, but near the end of practice, he was pretty tight."
"It was a lot longer time skating," said Connolly comparing his previous workout sessions with today's skate. "I can definitely feel it out there a little bit as far as my conditioning level. But it's something that should, and hopefully will, come back pretty quickly."
Connolly, who has missed the entire season due to post-concussion symptoms, feels that there are some parts of his game that don't need as much work as others to get back to his normal self.
"My hands feel pretty good," said Connolly. "They feel normal and that's not something that's I really have to worry about. My shot and my passing feel pretty good.
"It's just the timing. I've got to get the timing down, and just build up some recovery rate so I'm able to take a shift and then recover in time for the next shift."
Connolly is just anxious to return whenever possible, even if it takes time.
"We'll see how I feel on Wednesday," said Connolly about his return to the lineup. "We'll just play it by day, and just see how I feel. I'll try to do a little bit more each day and not overdo it. I just want to get back to where I am practicing all out everyday and doing some extra stuff as well."
