The Buffalo Sabres have recalled forward Marc-Andre Gragnani from the Rochester Americans.

The AHL rookie looks to fill in for Jochen Hecht who is “doubtful” for tonight’s match-up after pulling a muscle in his leg, according to head coach Lindy Ruff.

The 2005 draft pick ranks second on the Amerks with 35 points (7+28) in 58 games and is seventh in scoring among AHL rookies.

“I was very surprised,” Gragnani said of the recall. “[The Rochester coaching staff] told me I wasn’t playing but I didn’t know why… I felt bad obviously.

“[Randy Cunneyworth] said ‘do you know why? You’re going up,” Gragnani continued.

“I got Punk’d I guess.”

Previously listed as a defenseman, Gragnani made the transition to offense this season in Rochester as a response to injuries on the team.

He is expected to make his NHL debut tonight at HSBC Arena as the Sabres take on the New York Rangers at 7 p.m.
