EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS BEGIN
The Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative is gearing up for Earth Day 2008.

Taking part in several projects this week at local schools, the program hopes to promote energy conservation, recycling and help make Western New York a more environmentally-friendly place in the process.

The activities begin Saturday, April 19 at the Bailey Peninsula as the Sabres help out with South Park High School’s “Spring Shoreline Clean-up 2008.”

More than 60 students and volunteers are set to gather at 9 a.m. to pick up trash and remove graffiti in the area, while the Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative will be on-hand to assist and distribute information.

The event, in conjunction with Buffalo-Niagara Riverkeeper, aims at community beautification and will be active throughout Western New York at various locations. For more information to participate in the event, click here.

The Sabres will also participate in the Buffalo State College Environmental Information Fair on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22.

Organizations, including the Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative, will be at the school’s campus from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to create awareness for a variety of energy and conservation issues.

Similar topics will also be presented on Friday, April 25, at St. Andrews Day School in Kenmore.

The Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative will discuss the Sabres involvement in the community at the school’s Earth Day Celebration and explain easy, low-cost methods to reduce energy expenditure in students’ homes.
