SABRES TOP 10 GOALS OF 2007-08
Sabres.com chronicles the Top 10 Goals of Buffalo's 2007-08 season. From Andrej Sekera's game-winner in overtime to Derek Roy's diving play, watch some of the best highlights from the year. All goals are listed in chronological order and are not ranked.


MACARTHUR'S MEMORABLE DEBUT
In his first game of the 2007-08 season, Clarke MacArthur claimed the game-winning goal at 3:16 into overtime against the Boston Bruins. Taking a pass from Drew Stafford, MacArthur blasted a one-timer from the slot past Tim Thomas for a 2-1 final score on Nov. 7. The forward finished with 37 games and 15 points (8+7) on the year.

ONE TIME ONLY
Jaroslav Spacek displayed his thundering shot on Dec. 22 when he blasted a one-timer from the point to beat Philadelphia Flyer's stopper Martin Biron. The goal put the Sabres ahead 4-3 en route to a 6-5 shootout win. The power play goal was one of seven Spacek tallied over the course of the season, leading Buffalo blueliners.

POMINVILLE'S WRIST SHOT
In a three-point performance, Jason Pominville added two assists and a goal to help Buffalos defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on Jan. 29. Catching a pass from Clarke MacArthur halfway through the first period, the winger and snapped a wrist shot through traffic to beat netminder Johan Holmqvist.

PERENNIAL POINT
Andrew Peters isn't known for his offensive prowess, but on Feb. 27 the enforcer tallied a goal- his sole score of the year- in an 8-4 win against the Nashville Predators. While the goal was quick, Peter's celebration was not as the forward stood with his arms raised long after the play was over. Peters has scored four goals in four NHL seasons.

POMMER'S HEADS-UP PLAY
After Jason Pominville took a hard hit into the boards, a scrum developed outside of the Detroit Red Wings' zone early in the third period. While most paid attention to the activity along the wall, Pominville stole the puck before the whistle blew to beat an off-guard Dominik Hasek.

SHORT-HANDED SCORE
With a man down halfway through the first period, Derek Roy works with Jason Pominville to score Buffalo's third goal of the game. Beating the Carolina Hurricanes 7-1, Roy finished also added another goal and an assist on March 14. Roy led the Sabres in scoring in 2007-08 with 32 goals and 81 points.

VANEK ATTACK
In "The Combeback" game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Thomas Vanek tallied his second hat trick of the year, including the game-winning goal halfway through the final frame. The Sabres rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the March 19 contest, scoring six goals in the third period.

AFINOGENOV'S DEKE
Maxim Afinogenov scored the opening goal as the Buffalo Sabres went on to defeat the Ottawa Senators 4-3 in a shootout on March 27. Stealing the puck from the Sens' defense in the slot, Afinogenov quickly deked to beat goaltender Martin Gerber and take a 1-0 lead. Afinogenov scored 28 points in 58 games for Buffalo in 2007-08.

SEKERA'S GAME WINNER
Andrej Sekera's second career goal in the NHL may have been more memorable than his first as the rookie defenseman solidified a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on March 30. Sekera fired a shot from the blueline to beat netminder Alex Auld just 39 seconds into the extra frame.

DEREK'S DIVING ENDEAVOR
Down 2-0 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 1, Derek Roy put the Sabres on the board early in the second frame. Accepting the puck from Maxim Afinogenov, Roy slammed it in the net as he was being grabbed by a Leaf's defenseman, causing him to fall to the ice. Buffalo defeated Toronto 4-3 in a shootout.

The Buffalo Sabres finished fourth in the league with 251 goals scored in 2007-08. The following highlights are the top nominees requested by fans:

Top Goal Nominee: Patrick Kaleta's first NHL goal against the Florida Panthers at HSBC Arena. David Ferris - Hamburg, NY 700K

Top Goal Nominee: Definitely Derek Roy's goal 17:49 into the second period on Feb. 27 against Nashville. I don't understand why it is not in the Top 10. I think it is the best goal of 2007-08. Louis-Philippe Bellemare – Gatineau, QC 700K

Top Goal Nominee: Maxim Afinogenov's wrap-around goal against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 4 when the Sabres won 5-2. Jacob Cohen - Buffalo, NY 700K

Top Goal Nominee: Thomas Vanek's baseball-bat goal against Tampa Bay. His second goal of the night made it 6-4 Sabres after coming back from 4-1 deficit. Christian Ninniss - St. Catharines, ONT 700K

Top Goal Nominee: On November 21, 2007 against Ottawa, Drew Stafford scored to make it 4-2 Sabres. It was a huge goal to help beat the Senators. Robert Burdick – Lockport, NY 700K

Top Goal Nominee: The Sabres were down 4-1 to Tampa Bay on March 19 when Paul Gaustad charged forward during a faceoff allowing Jason Pominville to tap the puck in the net. This sprung the Sabres into a scoring frenzy as they scored six third-period goals beating the Lightning 7-4. Anthony Custode - Niagara Falls, NY 700K

Top Goal Nominee: Roy's shorthanded goal against Olaf Kolzig en route to a 5-3 victory over the Capitals on December 14, 2007. Nick – Richmond, VA 700K

Top Goal Nominee: Drew Stafford's breakaway goal against Atlanta Jan. 18.  He scored a hatrick in that game and his second goal of the night was a thing to behold. Alexander Szczesny - Lancaster, NY 700K
