Numminen (7/3/1968, 6’2”, 198 lbs.) played 16:03 in Buffalo’s regular season finale against the Boston Bruins last season. He had missed the first 81 games of the season recovering from heart surgery that took place on September 20, 2007 at the Cleveland Clinic. In three seasons with Buffalo, Numminen has scored 69 points (4+65) in 155 regular season games.

In 20 NHL seasons, Numminen has amassed 620 points on 115 goals and 505 assists. His 1,315 regular-season NHL games are the most ever by a European-trained NHL player.
The native of Tampere, Finland, has eclipsed the 40-point plateau seven times in his career. His top two seasons were 54 points (11-43) in 1995-96 with Winnepeg, and 48 (13-35) in 2001-02 with Phoenix.

Numminen, 40, was originally taken in the second round (29th overall) by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. He is the last remaining active player of the 252 chosen in the 1986 Draft. Numminen has appeared in three NHL All-Star Games (1999, 2000, 2001), and he represented Finland in the 2006, 2002, 1998 and 1988 Winter Olympics.
