We are on our way to Roberval, Quebec today for “Hockeyville 2008.”

The team is flying into Chicoutimi and from there taking a bus to Benoit Levesque Arena.

Roberval is about five or six hours away from where I grew up in Repentigny, Quebec. It’s probably the same distance from Buffalo to Montreal… not too close… so I’ve never actually been there before.

It doesn’t matter where you are from in Quebec though. It seems that almost everyone in that region is a Canadiens fan.

To have their team come to them instead of the fans driving all that way to see them in Montreal… it has to be such an event for the town.

I just put myself as a kid, the excitement of having two NHL teams come to my city and skate on the same ice that I would have skated on… it’s pretty exciting.

I know the whole city has been talking about this for a while. I’ve heard from a few of my friends who play hockey in that region that there is a buzz in the area already.

I’ve also heard from different people that there are going to be television screens outside of the arena where we are playing and they are expecting around 18,000 people watching it outside. It’s amazing when you think of the support up there.

One thing that should also be fun is that they have arranged a lot of different activities in addition to the game. We are going to visit a few schools down there and have a chance to meet as many people as we can… which I think is great.

If we can influence younger kids to pursue their dream then it’s worth it.

For me, I put myself in their shoes and I would have loved NHL players to come to my school and come and skate in my town and the rink I play on.

I know that this whole event is really more for them – the kids and the fans that live in Roberval - than it is for us. But even so, I am still pretty excited to be a part of it.
