He did not practice Thursday afternoon and was absent from the team’s morning skate Friday at HSBC Arena.
In his place, Jochen Hecht will return to the lineup after missing two games with an upper body injury. Hecht was hurt Jan. 31 in a 2-0 win against Phoenix.
“Obviously we need someone to fill that hole and we think Jochen can do that for us,” Ruff said.
Gaustad has missed a total of 14 games this season with two separate injuries. He was out for nine games after undergoing surgery on his thumb in October and suffered an upper body injury in December, causing him to miss five games.
He has registered six goals and 10 assists through 38 games this season.
