Dominic Moore will have to wait one more day to join his new team on the ice. The newly-acquired forward was unable to participate in Thursday’s practice at HSBC Arena due to the pending finalization of his United States Visa.

“It’s paperwork to be filed… the usual,” Moore said. “It just takes time to get that stuff done.”

Moore added that he fully expects to play in Friday night’s contest against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Head Coach Lindy Ruff reported that the centerman will likely pair with Derek Roy for the game, at least to start, moving Roy to the wing.

“That’s based on the fact that Derek has played some of his best hockey over there,” Ruff said. “I’ve given a lot of thought as to where to play him… I think we’ll take it game-to-game and I’m excited to get a look at him.”

Moore is arguably playing his best season in the NHL, already registering career highs in goals (12), assists (29), points (41) and penalty minutes (69) through 63 games. He has also been successful down the middle, especially on the draw, winning 54.8 percent of faceoffs and ranking 16th overall in the League for that category.

“It’s an area that we lagged in all year… key faceoffs are a very important thing,” Ruff said. “Even a key power play faceoff when you have 20 or 25 seconds left, that’s the difference between getting some zone time and maybe one opportunity, or they dump it down the ice and your power play is over.”

The Thornvill, Ontario native said he looks forward to acclimating to his new team as well as Ruff’s system. He already has some familiarity with the organization, growing up less than two hours north of Buffalo and has come to know them as opponents, playing the last two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“I had a lot of respect for this team before I joined it and I can’t wait to help out whatever way I can,” he said. “The last two times we played this team, I came away saying ‘they are a tough team, that’s a tough team to beat.’

“There are details with every coach’s system that are different, certain things they like to do, philosophies they like to stick with. I look forward to getting familiar with those, but at the same time I think style-wise I think I’m the kind of player that fits in well… I think I can always bring hard work and that’s something I take pride in and I think any coach can as well.”
