For more than fifty years, Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center, a not-for-profit organization, has been helping men, women and children overcome communication disorders. Since its inception, the organization has served more than 95,000 children and adults with communication impairments.

The Language to Literacy Program began in the summer of 2004. Speech-language pathologists created an intensive curriculum to help students with language based reading deficits in response to the communities growing need for effective literacy intervention. The curriculum is based in the most current science from leading sources such as the National Reading Panel and the unique expertise of the speech-language pathologist. Since its inception in 2004, the program has experienced significant growth. In the summer of 2004, thirty-six children ages 6-12 were enrolled in Phase I. By the summer of 2005, the program expanded offering a Phase II and programming for students ages 6 – 16. Fifty-four students were served that summer. In 2006, the Language to Literacy Program served 72 children.
