PROSPECTS IN PLAYOFFS

The Portland Pirates are battling the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League playoffs this week, but they aren’t the only Sabres prospects currently in the post-season.

Defenseman Tyler Myers is looking to help the Kelowna Rockets close in on the Western Hockey League’s Memorial Cup, while Jean-Simon Allard is fighting for the President’s Cup in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Myers, the Sabres’ first-round draft pick in 2008 (13th overall), has registered 14 points (4+10) in 14 playoff games for Kelowna this season. The Rockets are tied 2-2 in a seven-game series with the Vancouver Giants.

Kelowna travels to Vancouver for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Championship on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Allard, the Sabres’ 5th round choice in 2007 (147th overall), has scored 12 points (2+10) in 16 playoff games for the Quebec Remparts. The 19-year-old centerman finished the regular season with 56 points (16+40) in 66 games and earned a plus-25 rating.

The Remparts are down 3-1 with the Shawnigan Cataractes in the best-of-seven Semi Finals. Quebec hosts Shawnigan on Friday for Game 5 at 7 p.m.
