This week, Sabres.com is counting down the team's top five goals from the 2008-09 season. Watch the clips below and rank them from one to five. All goals are listed in chronological order and are not ranked.

VANEK NETS 10,000
Opening the scoring against New Jersey, Thomas Vanek forever cemented himself in Buffalo Sabres trivia – netting the franchise’s 10,000th goal. In the first minute of play, Jochen Hecht took the puck from behind the net and shoveled a backhand into the paint. Collecting his own rebound, Hecht again took a shot with Vanek regaining control and jamming it behind Devils’ netminder Kevin Weekes. Only 10 other teams have scored more goals all-time in the NHL.

COMEBACK IN DALLAS

After falling to a three-goal deficit, Buffalo rallied in the third period against the Dallas Stars to send the game to overtime. The Sabres struck two goals in a 15-second span to tie the game. First Paul Gaustad fired into an open net from close range at 9:54, and then Clarke MacArthur was alone in front of the net to tie it at 4 on a deflection at 10:09. MacArthur's goal sent the contest to overtime where the Sabres eventually won in the sixth round of a shootout.

PASSING TO PAILLE
In a 2-0 win against the Phoenix Coyotes, Derek Roy earned an assist on the night for a nifty play in the second period. Roy collected the puck at the Coyotes' blueline and deked between the legs of a Phoenix defenseman to send the puck to Dan Paille, who one-timed the pass into the upper-left corner.

STAFFORD'S STICK HANDLING

In a 5-0 win over Toronto, Drew Stafford's goal, which gave the Sabres a 2-0 lead 13 minutes into the first period, was the turning point, lifting his teammates and demoralizing the Maple Leafs. Accepting MacArthur's drop pass inside the Toronto blueline, Stafford faked driving inside and neatly backhanded the puck through his legs without breaking stride to fool defenseman Mike Van Ryn.

JUST A GAME

It was a tough day for the city of Buffalo when Continental Flight 3407 crashed into a Clarence home on Feb. 13, 2009. The Sabres declined to post-pone their game against the San Jose Sharks that night, and instead turned in one of their most memorable performances of the season in 6-5 shootout they dedicated to the victims of the crash. With four seconds remaining in the game, and the Sabres down 4-5, Jason Pominville played the hero as he snapped a 17-game scoring drought and sent the game to overtime.
