SABRES SIGN 2007 DRAFT PICK PAUL BYRON
Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier has announced that the Sabres have signed forward Paul Byron to a three-year entry level contract. Byron was Buffalo’s sixth-round selection (179th overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft.

Byron (5’9”, 165 lbs., 4/27/1989) just finished his third season with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he was fourth in league scoring with 99 points (33+66) in 64 games.

“Paul’s combination of speed and offense will be a great fit in our organization,” said Regier. “He has continued to improve each season, and he played a major part in helping Gatineau advance to the Memorial Cup last season. We look forward to watching him develop in the coming seasons.”

Byron increased his point total for a  third consecutive season, and posted career highs in both assists and points. The 20-year-old Byron had 27 multi-point games this season, including a league-high seven points (4+3) in one game against Drummondville on January 4/09.

A native of Ottawa, Ont., Byron scored a league-best 21 goals in 19 games during the 2008 QMJHL Playoffs as he led the Olympiques to a Memorial Cup berth. Byron finished his junior career with 54 points (28+26) in 34 playoff games.
