The Buffalo Sabres traded a popular veteran, Eddie Shack, to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for rookie Rene Robert.
  
 
PAT LAFONTAINE
Oct. 25, 1991
Pat LaFontaine was acquired by the Buffalo Sabres from the New York Islanders in a blockbuster, eight-person trade. Uwe Krupp, Pierre Turgeon, Benoit Hogue and Dave McLlwain were sent to the Islanders in exchange for LaFontaine, Randy Wood, Randy Hillier and the Islanders' fourth-round pick (Dean Melanson) in the 1992 Entry Draft.
  
 
DOMINIK HASEK
Aug. 7, 1992
Acquiring Dominik Hasek was a two-part deal. The Sabres sent Christian Ruutu to the Winnipeg Jets for Stephane Beauregard and future considerations. Buffalo then sent Beauregard and a 4th round choice (Eric Daze) in 1993 Entry Draft to the Chicago Blackhawks for the upcoming goaltender.
   
 
MICHAEL PECA
July 8, 1995
Michael Peca was traded to Buffalo by the Vancouver Canucks along with Mike Wilson and Vancouver's first-round choice (Jay McKee) in the 1995 Entry Draft for Alexander Mogilny and Buffalo's fifth round choice (Todd Norman) in the 1995 Entry Draft.
   
 
DANNY BRIERE
March 10, 2003
Buffalo acquired Daniel Briere at the trade deadline in 2003. The Phoenix Coyote's sent their third-round choice (Andrej Sekera) in the 2004 Entry Draft for Chris Gratton and Buffalo's fourth-round choice (later traded to Edmonton, Edmonton selected Liam Reddox) in the 2004 Entry Draft.
   
 
CHRIS DRURY
July 3, 2003
Chris Drury was traded to the Buffalo Sabres from the Calgary Flames along with Steve Begin in exchange for defenseman Rhett Warrener and Steven Reinprecht.
