Buffalo Sabres netminder Ryan Miller fueled the Steadfast Foundation with a trip to Watkins-Glen International Speedway.

Acting as the Grand Marshall for The Crown Royal 200 on Friday night, Miller’s charity in turn received a gift of $1,000 from the racetrack.

“We’re just trying to reach out to different areas of WNY and use as many outlets as possible,” Miller said. “We’re happy that so many people are reacting the way they are and inviting us to very unique [events] where we can get to a lot of people.”

The Steadfast Foundation, established by Miller and his family, “is dedicated to assisting those afflicted and affected by the consequences of cancer,” according to his Web site.

Hockey fans at Watkins-Glen were able to get autographs from the Buffalo Sabres netminder prior to the race and purchase limited edition New Era hats featuring the Steadfast Foundation and WGI logos - with all proceeds benefitting the organization.

Miller also had the opportunity to take a walk through the garage and the pit to see how the crews get ready to compete.

“It’s been an eye opener. There is so much that goes into prepping a car and prepping a team,” Miller said. “The kind of travel they do, the demands on the crew, it’s amazing.

“Right now I’m just happy to be out here and represent, see things from a new perspective. But the most important thing though is the Steadfast Foundation keeps spreading across WNY.”

Fans can also support Miller’s cause at the fourth annual Catwalk for Charity, slated for November 8, 2009. Click here for more information.
