HOCKEYFEST RECAP VIDEO
For the eighth straight year, teams battled in the full-day, three-on-three tournament in downtown Buffalo with a crowd of approximately 4,000 people in attendance.
Kids also gathered to watch a midday Sabres Alumni game as players, including Larry Playfair, Danny Gare, Mike Boland and Iouri Khmylev, took on staff from WGR 550. The alumni also signed autographs with current players Matt Ellis and Daniel Paille.
Opening games of the tournament began at 9 a.m. with championship games ending at 7 p.m.
The tournament has seen a massive growth since its inception in 2001. With only 32 teams competing that year, Street HockeyFest has expanded to include more than 800 children ranging from 5 years old to 17 years old.
The demand for the tournament has become so high, that a separate Legends Division has been added for men and women ages 18 and up, scheduled for Sep. 12 to coincide with the team’s PuckDrop festivities. Click here for more information on the Buffalo Sabres Adult Street HockeyFest.
