The event consisted of 35 teams paired with former NHLers, helping to raise money for the Alumni Association’s various organizations.
“This event has grown each year and it’s fantastic for players to come back and see the groups they played with before and also meet new people,” Grant Ledyard said. “It’s part of a continuous effort to stay involved in the community and work closely with our charities.”
The tournament has served to raise money for St. Catharine’s General Hospital, Alzheimer’s Society of the Niagara Region and Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club, among other charities, in the past.
The event has gotten so big that the Alumni Association has had to make a waiting list for future tournaments.
“I know if I miss one year I probably won’t get back in because we have a waiting list for alumni trying to get in here as well,” Ric Seiling said. “It’s a great event, a lot of fun and it raises a lot of money for not only Buffalo, but all of Western New York.”
Former Sabres including Seiling, Rick Martin, Michael Peca, Danny Gare, and Rob Ray were on-hand, as well as current Sabres’ staff like Chris Butler and Harry Neale.
“The good thing is that the guys all get together, they give their time and are supportive of everything. We are very fortunate to have as many alumni players living in the area as we do and we are able to get them to come out,” Ray said. “We try to help out as many people as possible and right now this golf tournament is one of our biggest fundraisers.”
