--Tyler Ennis can play. The kid was excellent with the puck and showed some tenacity. Linemate Jason Pominville was impressed ( Audio | Video) especially since Ennis hadn’t played center until camp.
--Tyler Myers (Audio | Video) had some really good moments and a few hiccups, but all in all he’s going to be good. His reach alone makes things difficult for opposing forwards, and I liked him on the point of the power play as he was able to keep the puck in the zone a few times.
--I expected a better game out of Mike Weber. This opinion may be jaded by his late, ill-advised boarding penalty on Brendan Morrison, but so be it. It was a dumb penalty at a crucial time of the game. The kind of penalty that makes Lindy Ruff lose trust in a player. He also got caught deep a few times in his own end.
--Nathan Gerbe assisted on Tim Kennedy’s goal, but I would to see #42 get more shots on goal. He had just 1 in over 16:00 of ice time.
--Glad to see Jason Pominville scored in the third period after failing to capitalize in the second period on two great chances. After the game he talked of consistency this year and avoiding scoreless streaks. Remember he had two extensive ones last season that reached well past a dozen games.
--The best player for Buffalo that you’ve never heard of was defenseman Michael Kostka. The 23-year-old defenseman was solid in his own end and showed some offensive ability with two shots on goal. He registered four goals and 26 assists last season in Portland. It was also weird seeing a skater wearing #32 and not dropping the gloves.
