BTB: DIRECTV, VERSUS AND THE NHL
The National Hockey League has responded to queries about DirecTV's ongoing negotiations with the Versus network.

DirecTV's contract with Versus expired on August 31. Subscribers have not been able to watch the channel since, removed from their lineup on September 1. The two sides have been trying to reach a deal, but have not yet come to terms.

From the NHL:

"We want all our fans who are DirecTV subsribers to be able to watch NHL games on VERSUS beginning Oct. 1. We have met with DirecTV and VERSUS, both of whom are business partners, and have emphasized that we -- and most NHL fans everywhere -- want them to resolve their carriage dispute as quickly as possible."

Versus has carried NHL games since the 2005-06 season, following the lockout. The network extended their contract with the League this summer and is set to carry 54 games in the 2009-10 season, as well as "wall-to-wall" playoff coverage and Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Buffalo Sabres have six games set to broadcast on Versus this season, beginning Oct. 13 when they host the Red Wings.

Fans can contact DirecTV by calling (800) DIRECTV and Versus by emailing versus@directv.com.
