Buffalo’s 2008 Winter Classic Rink may be getting some upgrades.

The Aurora Ice Association, which reconstructed the outdoor facility last fall, has been granted approval to relocate a ‘warming hut’ to the famed rink, according to the Buffalo News.

The Time Warner Cable Classic Rink, as it is now called, was originally used in the January 1 game between the Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins at Ralph Wilson Stadium. It has since been installed on Riley Street in East Aurora to accommodate hockey, figure skating and special events for local fans.

The AIA estimates that more than 15,000 tournaments, games and practices were held last winter. Due to its popularity, the town agreed to lend the Classic Rink a 12-by-14-foot hut from Hamlin Park, which has stopped making an ice surface in recent years because of weather.
