The defenseman suffered the injury late in Wednesday’s 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers, causing him to miss a few shifts - as well as Friday’s practice with the team.
“It’s still bad enough where he couldn’t practice so we’ll see tomorrow how he is,” Ruff said. “There’s probably a chance he doesn’t play.”
Nathan Paetsch will serve as Lydman’s replacement if the blueliner is unable to skate. Paetsch has been a healthy scratch for all seven games this season. He finished the 2008-09 campaign with six points (2+4) and a plus-three rating through 23 games as the team’s seventh defenseman.
Ruff also updated the status of Andrej Sekera, who has missed the last four games with a rib injury he sustained Oct. 10 in Nashville. The blueliner has returned to practice, but is not yet cleared for contact.
“I don’t exactly know what that time frame will be,” Ruff said. “He’ll see our doctors when we get back and the doctors will make a decision.”
The Sabres did not practice Thursday – opting for an off-ice, team-building exercise. They return to the ice Saturday night, taking on the Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum at 7:30 p.m.
