Tyler Ennis registered the game-winning goal in a 6-4 win against the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday.

His sixth tally of the season, Ennis leads the Portland Pirates in goals ahead of Jeff Cowan (4G) through 10 games. 

His three-game scoring streak -  recording three goals and an assist - ended Sunday night in a 3-2 loss against the Hershey Bears.

Ennis is ranked fifth among rookie scoring in the American Hockey League with eight points.

Philip Gogulla earned his first AHL goal in Sunday’s loss to the Bears.  The point came just 28 seconds after Cowan registered the Pirates’ first goal of the game.

The winger has also collected three assists in 10 games with the Pirates, and is third in scoring among nine rookies on the team.

NEWS AND NOTES:
  • Drew Schiestel earned his first career AHL assist in Saturday’s 6-4 win against the Admirals while winger Jeff Cowen net his 50th career goal in the AHL and goalie JP Lamoureux earned his first career victory.
  • Cody McCormick has been suspended for five games for leaving the players’ bench on a legal line change for the purpose of starting an altercation in a game at Providence on Oct. 18.  McCormick has missed the last three contests and will sit out both games this week (Oct. 30 vs Lowell, Oct. 31 vs Bridgeport).
  • Mark McCutcheon was signed to a Professional Tryout Agreement this past Friday (Oct. 23).  McCutcheon is a native of Ithaca, NY and son of Sabres Associate Coach Brian McCutcheon.
  • Kyle Wanvig was also signed to a Professional Tryout Agreement on Wednesday (Oct. 21).  Wanvig participated in the Pirates 2009 Training Camp, registering a goal and three assists in four games before being released.
  • The Pirates will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Oct. 30 as they take on the Devils, featuring commemorative pink jerseys. The night also features a silent auction during the game. Proceeds and a portion of the game’s 50/50 sales will be donated to the Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute’s Breast Care Center.  In addition, the Pirates have committed to donate $3 from every advanced ticket purchased through the promotion.
