While the recovery time for the defenseman’s procedure was anticipated to be four to six months, Head Coach Lindy Ruff said the indications are looking good for Opening Day.
“We knew going in that with the surgery he should be ready for camp and he’s had a good summer,” Ruff said. “If it’s not full-go right off the bat, he will be ready for the season.”
Rivet first mentioned the surgery during the team’s locker room cleanout following elimination from the playoffs after a six-game series with the Boston Bruins.
Rivet played 78 games for the Sabres in the 2009-10 season, registering 16 points (2+14), including a score in the playoffs. His production, however, was limited due to the ailment.
“I think any time you go through a year like he did – you’re playing with a bad shoulder, you’re playing with a harness on – you look at those situations and you go through the surgery in the offseason, and he’s got enough where he wants to have a real good year,” Ruff said.
Rivet is expected make his debut on Saturday, September 18 when veterans report for Puck Drop festivities. Click here for more information.
