27TH ANNUAL SUPER SUNDAY RESULTS
Western New York’s top high school hockey teams gathered at HSBC Arena on Sunday for the 27th Annual Super Sunday High School Hockey Championships as 14 teams battled for seven league titles.  The action began at 8 a.m., with each of the first two games being decided in overtime, and lasted all day as the final game ended at 10:45 p.m. 

Below is a recap of the day’s action:

SOUTHTOWNS CLUB LEAGUE
Iroquois/Alden 6, St. Francis 5 (OT)

The drama got started early as the first game of the day was decided in overtime when Iroquois/Alden’s Adam Szwarts completed a hat trick by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime.  Eric Germony added a goal and an assist for Iroquois/Alden.  Ryan Hornberger scored a pair of goals for St. Francis while teammate Tyler Metigue collected three asssits.

WESTERN NEW YORK SMALL SCHOOLS
Starpoint 3, Maryvale 2 (2OT)

The overtime action continued in the following game as Starpoint got a goal from Lucas Smith at 7:13 in double overtime to end the longest game of the day.  Glenn Toczek scored two goals for Starpoint while Maryvale got goals from Matt Opala and captain Ricky Cartwright.

WESTERN NEW YORK LARGE SCHOOLS
Lancaster 4, City Honors/O’Hara 1

Anthony Colvin recorded a goal and an assist to lead Lancaster, while Casey Walters, Alec Courtney and Nathan Stiglmeier also scored.  Sean McGrath scored the lone goal for City Honors/O’Hara.

EXPLORER CLUB LEAGUE
Hutch Tech 5, Akron 1

Five different players scored a goal for Hutch Tech in a 5-1 win over Akron as Jonathan Jeziorowski, Kyle Conlin, Edward Shantler, Tyler Kutch and Jay Mudra each lit the lamp.  Jeziorowski and Shantler each added an assist as well.  Tyler Zbytek scored a goal for Akron.

MONSIGNOR MARTIN LEAGUE
St. Joe’s 2, St. Francis 0

Tyler Mills and Kyle Moslow each scored in the second period, and that turned out to be all the scoring St. Joe’s would need as the team went on to a 2-0 victory over St. Francis.  Goaltender Marc Mallare stopped all 19 shots he faced to record the shutout while St. Francis goaltender Robert Bloomfield made 24 saves on 26 shots in the loss.

WESTERN NEW YORK SMALL SCHOOL FEDERATION
Williamsville East 2, Kenmore East 1

Kenmore East took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Dan Giliforte, but Williamsville East scored twice in the second period and held on for the 2-1 victory.  Mike Sarcinelli and Matt Territo lit the lamp for Williamsville East while goaltender Tucker Weppner turned aside 28 of 29 shots to earn the victory in net.

WESTERN NEW YORK LARGE SCHOOL FEDERATION
Williamsville North 6, Frontier 0

Scott Sims recorded two goals and an assist to help lead Williamsville North to a 6-0 win over Frontier.  Goaltender Parker Gahagen registered the shutout while David Powers, Nick DeSimmone, Jake Rosen and Jon Haynes each scored a goal.  Frontier goaltender Matthew Blattenburger made 55 saves on 61 shots.
