  • THE 3-2 COUNT
In their history, the Sabres are 5-1 in a series when leading 3-2. They also have a record of 5-1 in Game 6: 2-0 at home, 3-1 on the road. The last time Buffalo played at home when leading a series 3-2 was April 21, 2001 vs. Philadelphia –a game that Buffalo won 8-0.
  • RUFF REACHES 100
Lindy Ruff will coach in his 100th career playoff game today, making him the eighth coach in NHL history to reach 100 games with the same team. Ruff’s 100 playoff games coached rank him fifth among active coaches, and 20th all-time.
  • SCORING FIRST
The team that scores first has won each game of this series so far. Dating back to the 2006 Playoffs, teams scoring first in a playoff game have a cumulative record of 312-148 (.678). This season that number is even higher, as the team scoring first has a record of 29-6 (.829). (Stats as of 4/23)
  • ENNIS THE MENACE
Tyler Ennis scored the OT winner in Game 5, making him just the fifth Sabres rookie to score a playoff OT goal. Ennis is the first NHL rookie this to score in overtime this postseason. The last rookie to score in OT was Colorado’s Ryan O’Reilly on April 18/10. Ennis also combined with fellow rookie Marc-Andre Gragnani to score three of Buffalo’s four goals in Game 5. The last time two rookies combined for three goals in a playoff game was May 25/06: Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf and Dustin Penner.
  • QUICK HITS
Buffalo blocked 29 shots in Game 5, and entered play on Saturday leading the NHL with 61 –11 ahead of second-place Chicago. Patrick Kaleta was the only Sabres skater to not record a block in Game 5… Paul Gaustad won 17 of 24 faceoffs in Game 5, leading the Sabres to a 36-29 overall advantage. Gaustad was 11-3 in the defensive zone, with his only three losses coming against Claude Giroux (3-3)… Marc-Andre Gragnani scored his first career playoff goal in Game 5, and now has points in four of the five games. Gragnani had a three-game point streak snapped in Game 4. Gragnani is also among the league leaders in takeaways with 5… Ryan Miller’s shutout streak was snapped at 78:34, when James van Riemsdyk scored at 8:12 of the 2nd period in Game 5… Despite taking a league-high 36 penalties, Buffalo’s PK has only allowed two power play goals (24/26, 92.3%).
  • MILLER TIME!
With his 1-0 win on Wednesday, Ryan Miller became the third goalie in franchise history to post two shutouts in one series, joining Bob Sauve (1983 vs. MTL) and Dominik Hasek (1994 vs. NJ). Miller also joins the same duo as the only players to record two shutouts in one playoff year: Sauve (1980, 1983); Hasek (1994, 1999).
  • ONE AND DONE
This is the first time the Sabres have ever won a pair of 1-0 games in the same series. The last team to win two 1-0 games in a series was Calgary in 2004 vs. Detroit, and Miikka Kiprusoff won both games for the Flames. The only team to win three 1-0 games in one playoff series was Toronto against Chicago in the 1994 Conference Quarterfinals. Buffalo Sabres: Media Notes
