MSG GOES BEHIND THE SCENES
MSG Networks’ new episode of its award-winning original series “The Game 365” features the Buffalo Sabres on their trip to Germany and Finland for the start of the 2011-12 season. The episode premieres on MSG Plus on Monday, November 7 at 10 p.m.

Hosted by veteran broadcaster and former Yankees catcher Fran Healy, the show takes fans behind-the-scenes as the Sabres embarked on their overseas October road trip, which they swept by defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 in the season opener in Helsinki and the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 in Berlin the next day.

The episode features exclusive access to the team’s plane, practices, and the pre-season exhibition game against the Adler Mannheim Eagles in Germany, as well as off-the-ice-activities, including a trip to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center to visit wounded American soldiers.

Before he boarded the flight, Sabres coach Lindy Ruff talked about the trip and keeping the team focused on the games.

“Obviously we are going to enjoy our time, but we are going there to win two games,” said Ruff. “It will be a great team bonding experience, but our goal is to win games.”

The team wasted no time getting down to business when they arrived in Germany, hitting the ice an hour after landing. Goalie Ryan Miller wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We’re used to it. Any time we fly cross-country we get off the plane and try to get a workout in, it’s just a little bit different with such a big time shift and flying overnight,” said Miller. “It’s probably the best thing to do, to get up and get moving. If not you tend to get a little drawn out and you try to take a day or two to adjust. I think it was good that we got off our plane and got ourselves to work.”

In the episode, Healy also sits down with new owner Terry Pegula to talk about the team and its future, the city of Buffalo, and what kind of owner he plans to be.

“I’m more hands-on because I had never met Darcy Regier, Lindy Ruff or any of the assistants,” said Pegula. “The first time you talk to them – I think one of my strengths is that I can evaluate people pretty quickly – you realize we have a pretty good organization. The people we have are pretty solid at what they do. I expect to be less hands-on and enjoy it more as the years go by."

The episode will run a number of times on MSG Plus after the premiere, including: Tuesday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m.; Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, November 11 at 6:00 a.m.; Saturday, November 12 at 11:30 p.m.; and Sunday, November 13 at 7:00 a.m.

“The Game 365” is a New York Emmy Award-winning half-hour talk show that features sit-down interviews with prominent athletes and entertainers, from yesterday’s legends, like Yankees slugger Reggie Jackson, to current stars such as Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee and Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. New episodes air twice a month on both MSG Network and MSG Plus. “The Game 365” hosted by Fran Healy first appeared on MSG Networks in 2006.
