Thomas Vanek scored with 25 seconds left in overtime to cap a wild 6-5 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday at First Niagara Center. The goal was Buffalo’s fourth power play tally of the night, and it was the only time they led all game. The Sabres were four-for-12 on the power play, and also added a shorthanded goal from Pominville. It was the first time since October 29, 2005 that Buffalo scored four power play goals in one game.

Jason Pominville (1+2) and Derek Roy (2+1) each had three point nights for the Sabres, while rookie Corey Tropp chipped in with his first NHL goal in just his third game.

The two teams combined for six goals in the game’s first 13:06, including goals from Roy and Tropp just 11 seconds apart midway through the period. Tanner Glass, Bryan Little, Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler each collected two points for the Jets, who concluded a season-high seven-game road trip with a record of 3-2-2.

I like the fight the team put up. That was even more important than the fight Ryan was putting up. I thought the team fought hard and ended up getting him a win and I thought that was important – probably more important than anything. - Lindy Ruff

After allowing three Jets goals on 12 shots in the first period, goaltender Ryan Miller settled down to stop 16 of 18 shots over the final two frames. Miller joked that “it was nice to make it to the second period this time,” but it was obvious he felt much better about the final result.

“To be brutally honest, after those first two, I was just like, ‘Yeah. OK we’re going to do this again, huh?’” said Miller. “I tried to just slowly keep myself in the game. It helped that the guys kept putting goals up. You don’t plan nights like that and you certainly don’t like to see too many of them but it’s good we came out on the winning side.

"Again, we’re going to have to learn some lessons from this one and personally I just need to take away where I can be better and where I can make a difference. There are some situations out there where I need to start to get a little more in sync with my guys."

Buffalo won 50 of 75 faceoffs, with Pominville (12-2) and Paul Gaustad (15-5) combining to go 27-7.
