Hosted by veteran broadcaster and former Yankees catcher Fran Healy, Part Two of the show takes fans behind-the-scenes as the Sabres prepare for their opening game of the season against the Anaheim Ducks in Helsinki. The night before the first game, MSG’s cameras were in the room as coach Lindy Ruff spoke to the players about what he expected from them this season.
“Leadership has to come from all areas and we’re going to need leadership from our young guys and we need leadership from our veteran front,” said Ruff. “I believe that if we don’t have leadership everywhere, then we really have it nowhere on the team.”
In that meeting, Coach Ruff also announced that forward Jason Pominville would be captain of the team this season.
“Obviously it’s a great honor,” said Pominville after accepting his captain’s jersey. “It means a lot to be named captain by the organization. I’m up to the challenge and it should be a fun year.”
Pominville also addressed the team: “Regardless of if you have a letter on your jersey or not, if you see something that you think can help the team and make us better, let someone know about it. At the end of the day, we’re all in this together.”
The episode, which will also air twice the following day at 7:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., includes additional interviews with team owner Terry Pegula and his family, and center Ville Leino and assistant coach Teppo Numminen, who both grew up in Helsinki.
“The Game 365” is a New York Emmy Award-winning half-hour talk show that features sit-down interviews with prominent athletes and entertainers, from yesterday’s legends, like Yankees slugger Reggie Jackson, to current stars such as Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee and Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. New episodes air twice a month on both MSG Network and MSG Plus. “The Game 365” hosted by Fran Healy first appeared on MSG Networks in 2006.
