GOAL OF THE YEAR - ENNIS WINS BIG
As Tuesday\u2019s go, they probably don\u2019t get much better than today if you are Tyler Ennis.

As Tuesday’s go, they probably don’t get much better than today if you are Tyler Ennis.

Moments after defeating Evegni Malkin in the quarterfinals of TSN’s Play of the Year Showdown, it was revealed that Ennis’ dirty dangle tally against the Montreal Canadiens on March 12 received another honor as it was selected as the Sabres’ Goal of the Year by fans in an online vote at Sabres.com.

Ennis received 83 percent of the more than 1400 votes cast, soundly defeating his own February 19 goal against Pittsburgh in the most lopsided battle of the two-week competition.

“The Montreal goal was definitely my favorite of the two because it was a more important goal at a crucial time in the game,” said Ennis, who has been deluged with media requests today following his double victory. “The goal against Pittsburgh was a good goal, but it didn’t mean as much as the Montreal goal. That was a bigger factor for me.”

The Goal of the Year champion actually started out as the fourth seed in the competition, while the Pittsburgh goal was the top seed with 66 percent of the initial fan vote in ranking the top goals on our Facebook page. The Montreal goal defeated Jason Pominville (March 27 at Washington) and Marcus Foligno (March 14 vs. Colorado) on its way to the Finals, while the Pittsburgh goal took down Cody Hodgson (March 21 vs. Montreal) and Thomas Vanek (October 29 vs. Florida).
