A numerical and statistical look at forward Evan Rankin’s first season with the Rochester Americans during the 2011-12 American Hockey League season.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY: In an injury-riddled season that saw him play just 35 games for the Amerks this season, forward Evan Rankin was unquestionably one of Rochester’s most consistent players who posed a great offensive threat. Despite skating in just half of the regular season, the University of Notre Dame product demonstrated his natural scoring abilities by piling up 29 points on 15 goals and 14 assists to finish the campaign among the Amerks’ top 10 point-getters. After earning an assist in his Amerks debut on November 25, Rankin would quickly become a point-per-game player as he recorded 12 points (7+5) in his first 12 games in Rochester before a concussion sidelined him for the next 23 games. Upon his return, Rankin would post three points (1+2) in his first four games back in the lineup, including a point in each game between February 25 and March 3.

LAND OF OPPORUNITY: The benefactor due to an overwhelming string of injuries and recalls to the Buffalo Sabres, Rankin first joined the Amerks on a professional tryout from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, where he paced the team with 18 points (10+8) in 15 games. He also ranked tied for fifth in goals and 10th in overall scoring among league leaders prior to joining Rochester. His temporary fill-in role was soon upgraded to a higher status after showcasing his offensive prowess when he registered 12 points (7+5) in his first 12 games that would ultimately solidify a full-time roster spot and earn him an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of the 2011-12 season.

BY THE NUMBERS...

200: Scored a goal against Syracuse on March 16 to record his 200th professional point.

100: Notched his 100th professional goal in a 3-2 overtime loss at San Antonio on December 16 and recorded his 100th assist in a 4-3 loss at Abbotsford on April 4.

47: Totaled 47 points (25+22) in a combined 50 games between Toledo and Rochester in 2011-12 and averaged nearly a point per game.

23: Missed a season-long 23 games with a concussion from December 28 to February 22, but made an immediate contribution in his return to the lineup.

18: Rochester won 18 of its 35 games when Rankin was in the lineup.

15: Scored 15 goals in just 35 games with Rochester, including seven in his first 12 outings, and finished the campaign fifth on the team in that category.

9: Collected nine multi-point games this season, including three consecutive two-point efforts that featured a goal and an assist each at Abbotsford on April 4, at Hamilton on April 7 and at Adirondack on April 8.

5: Posted a season-high five-game point streak (4+4) from April 4 to April 13 before being held scoreless in Rochester’s regular season finale on April 14.
