JEANNERET HUMBLED BY HALL OF FAME HONOR

Rick Jeanneret was back at First Niagara Center on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn’t for his usual duties. The venerable Buffalo Sabres broadcaster was one of 14 new members introduced to the media, as the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame unveiled its Class of 2012.

After speaking on behalf of his fellow inductees, Jeanneret talked about what this honor means to him.

“If I’m a politician, I guess I’m dealing with my constituency. I got voted back in again, that’s the way I feel,” said a smiling Jeanneret. “I just feel wonderfully honored, and the fact that so many people seem to care about the Buffalo Sabres, it just turns into a wonderful event for me and something I’m deeply gratified by.”

Jeanneret acknowledged several current Hall of Fame members in his remarks, including Ted Darling, Jim Lorentz and legendary Buffalo Bisons slugger Luke Easter. He has the utmost respect for their contributions to Buffalo sports history, and says he’s humbled to be among them now.

“The fans of Western New York have always meant an awful lot to me. And they’ve conveyed to me that I mean something to them. When I get an honor like this, it’s really taken to heart.”

Joining Jeanneret in this year’s class will be: George Carter, Harry Jacobs, Kim Kaul, Eric Knuutila, Todd Miller, Frank Sacheli, Joe Wolf, Craig Wolfley, Ron Wolfley, Nan Harvey, Stan Rojek, Wally Schang and Lou Scozza

This event will mark the 22nd class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1991 and brings total membership to 254.

This group will join a rich heritage of native Western New Yorkers, or those who starred in and around the Queen City during their playing days, who are enshrined in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. The 2012 class will be officially introduced this fall at the GBSHOF dinner in the Buffalo Hyatt Regency.

The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame honors those who have enhanced our lives with their performances and commitment to Western New York sports, an effort surpassed only by the positive impressions they have left on our athletes of tomorrow.
