A numerical and statistical look at forward Travis Turnbull’s first season with the Rochester Americans during the 2011-12 American Hockey League season.

CAREER-YEAR: After posting just nine points (5+4) in an injury-filled season that saw him play just 20 games for the Portland Pirates in 2010-11, Turnbull arrived in Rochester for the 2011-12 campaign and assembled what would become his finest season of professional hockey, setting career-highs in every offensive category in goals (12), assists (15), points (27), penalty minutes (117) and games played (63). It was the best statistical season for the St. Louis, Missouri, native, who finished 10th on the team in scoring and eighth among forwards.

A SPECIAL TEAM SPECIALIST: A versatile player who earned significant playing time in specials teams situations, Turnbull registered six (3+3) of his 27 points on either the power-play or penalty kill, and was one of six Amerks forwards to net three power-play goals this season.

BY THE NUMBERS...

117: Captured a new single-season career-high with 117 PIM, which ranked second to only Joe Finley’s team-best 143 PIM.

102: Fired off 102 shots on goal and was one of just seven Amerks with 100+ shots on the season.

100: Played in his 100th professional game at Houston on December 18, scoring a goal to help the Amerks to a 6-3 win over the Aeros.

27: Set the 2011-12 season-high mark for most penalty minutes in a single game when he racked up 27 PIM against Oklahoma City on December 28.

9: Missed nine games with an injury that kept him out of the lineup from November 12 to December 4.

5: Recorded a season-long five-game point streak between February 2 and February 10, scoring four goals and assisting on three others during that span.

4: Turnbull notched four games with at least two or more points over the course of the season, including his most productive outing on February 10th when he scored a pair of goals and set up another in Rochester’s 9-4 rout over the Texas Stars.

Closed out the season with a career-best +4 on-ice rating, representing the third straight season Turnbull finished above the even mark.

3: Appeared in three NHL contests for the Buffalo Sabres, making his major league debut against Montreal on March 21 and scoring his first NHL goal just two nights later against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
