SABRES PROSPECTS REPORT
Jake McCabe (2012, second round) notched a goal and an assist on Saturday, as Wisconsin dropped a pair of 4-2 decisions this weekend to Minnesota State. The multi-point night gives the second-year defenseman two goals and six points through the Badgers\u2019 first 10 games.

Mikhail Grigorenko (2012, first round) added five goals to his season haul last week, including a Black Friday hat trick, as the Quebec Remparts claimed a pair of blowout victories.

The red hot Russian began the week by scoring twice in a span of 1:13 as Quebec pounded Acadie-Bathurst 9-2 on Wednesday. Earlier that day, Grigorenko saw friend and linemate Nikita Kucherov traded to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies as Remparts General Manager Patrick Roy worked towards a solution to allow their three European imports quality ice time.

Grigorenko followed up on Friday by notching his second hat trick of the year in Quebec’s 6-0 blanking of Sherbrooke. Displaying an equal aptitude for passing and shooting, the talented scorer is currently tied for the league lead with 23 goals in 24 games, while his 43 points rank second overall.

For a Sabres organization in search of scoring depth at the center position, Grigorenko’s dominating start at the major junior level appears to be just what the doctor ordered.

Justin Kea (Saginaw)

OHL
Saginaw centerman Justin Kea (2012, third round) scored two game-tying goals last week, upping his season point total to 19 through the Spirit’s 27 games. A developing clutch performer, Kea’s last four goals have either evened the score or have given the Spirit a lead. His season total of seven goals equals the combined output from his first two OHL seasons (127 games).

Dan Catenacci (2011, third round) notched his 16th goal of the year Sunday as Owen Sound skated to a 6-1 victory over Mississauga. The Attack’s leading point-getter, Catenacci enters the final week of November ranked eighth in league scoring with 38 points (16+22).

Belleville defenseman Brady Austin (2012, seventh round) continued to execute in a shutdown manner as the Bulls won two of the week’s three games. The 6-foot-4 lefthander has produced six assists for the Bulls, who enter the week tied for first place in the East Division.

Alex Lepkowski (2011, fifth round) maintained his role as anchor of Barrie’s top defensive pair as the Colts won once in three tries. Despite the pair of losses, the Colts remain atop the Central Division standings heading into the thick of the schedule.

Logan Nelson (Victoria)

WHL
Victoria Royals forward Logan Nelson (2012, fifth round) accumulated four hard-working helpers in three outings, including a nifty backhand feed from behind the net on Saturday, to extend his point streak to a season-high six games. The 19-year old, who began the productive stretch with a hat trick back on November 10, is currently tied for 14th in the league with 16 assists.

In Friday action, Colin Jacobs (2011, fourth round) buried a slap shot for his 10th goal of the year as Prince George got past Victoria 5-4. At the 25-game mark, the Coppell, TX, native continues to lead the Cougars in scoring with 23 points.

Goaltender Andrey Makarov stopped 41 of 43 shots Friday to lead Saskatoon to a 3-2 shootout triumph over league frontrunner Kamloops. Makarov, who was unable to complete his other two starts in a pair of blowout losses, enters the week with an 11-11-0-1 record for the third-place Blades.

Jake McCabe (Wisconsin)

NCAA
Jake McCabe (2012, second round) notched a goal and an assist on Saturday, as Wisconsin dropped a pair of 4-2 decisions this weekend to Minnesota State. The multi-point night gives the second-year defenseman two goals and six points through the Badgers’ first 10 games. Sophomore forward Brad Navin (2011, seventh round) was unable to crack the scoresheet while receiving checking line duty. Winless in their last seven, Wisconsin will look to right the ship next weekend at fifth-ranked Denver.

Christian Isackson (2010, seventh round) resumed his right wing role on a line with Florida Panthers prospects Nick Bjugstad and Kyle Rau, as the third-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers swept a non-conference set at Vermont. The Gophers return to action next weekend with a home set versus Nebraska-Omaha.

Junior rearguard Mark Adams (2009, fifth round) remained out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury as Providence won the 2012 Mayor’s Cup with a 7-0 pasting of cross-town rival Brown. Adams hasn’t played since the Friars’ win at Vermont on November 2.

USHL
Judd Peterson (2012, seventh round) collected one goal and one assist last week as Cedar Rapids dropped both ends of a home-and-home series with Waterloo. Peterson’s goal from the edge of the crease gives him 10 points (3+7) through 13 games with the RoughRiders.

European Leagues
Goaltender Linus Ullmark made 28 saves Saturday to guide MODO Hockey J20 to a 5-2 SuperElit league win over Timra IK. Through 15 appearances for the J20, Ullmark has amassed 11 wins (2nd in league), a 2.34 GAA (2nd), and .913 save% (3rd). As a reward for his steady play, Ullmark earned a contract extension with the Swedish club through the 2014-15 season.

In Finland, Assat Pori forward Joel Armia (2011, first round) is listed as “day to day” after suffering an upper body injury against JYP. Armia, who missed the week’s two games, has yet to resume skating as Assat prepares for Tuesday’s tilt with HIFK.
