ROY SCORES FIRST PRO GOAL IN 4-2 LOSS TO RAMPAGE
Rookie Frederick Roy scored his first professional goal Wednesday night, but the Rochester Americans fell to the San Antonio Rampage by a 4-2 score at The Blue Cross Arena.

(ROCHESTER, NY)… Rookie Frederick Roy scored his first professional goal Wednesday night, but the Rochester Americans fell to the San Antonio Rampage by a 4-2 score at The Blue Cross Arena.

Brian Flynn assisted on Roy’s third period goal to extend his point streak to nine games (7+8), giving him the second-longest point streak in the AHL this season and the longest assist streak (seven games) in the League to date. Amerks goaltender David Leggio stopped 21 of 25 shots on goal while Evan Rankin scored his fifth goal of the season.

For San Antonio, 10 different players recorded a point, with Greg Rallo, Quinton Howden, Michael Caruso and Jean-Francois Jacques scoring the goals. Former Amerks netminder Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves to pick up the win for the Rampage, who snapped their eight-game losing streak with their first victory since Nov. 4.

“It’s always exciting to get your first (goal) and get it out of the way,” Roy said after netting his first pro goal. “It’s disappointing that we lost, but it’s something that I can build on.”

The Rampage jumped out to an early lead as Rallo’s one-timer from the slot found its way past Leggio at 4:32 of the first period. Jonathan Hazen fed the puck low to James Wright, who then sent a pass out front to Rallo for his fourth goal of the season.

San Antonio increased its lead less than three minutes into the second period when the Rampage broke in on a 2-on-1 and Howden finished off a cross-ice pass from Jared Gomes to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Minutes later, the Rampage built a 3-0 lead as Caruso corralled a rebound in the slot and fired it into the partially-open net.

The Amerks closed the gap midway through the second period when Rankin managed to tip a Nick Crawford slapper past Markstrom to make it a 3-1 game.

San Antonio took a 4-1 lead with a minute remaining in the second when Jon Rheault spun just inside the blue line and feathered a backhanded pass to Jacques for the goal.

With 7:43 left in the third period, the Amerks pulled to within two as a shot from Joe Finley was redirected to Flynn, who calmly passed it to Roy for the Amerks’ second goal of the night.

The Amerks host the defending Western Conference champion Toronto Marlies on Friday, Nov. 30 in the first of back-to-back tilts as the North Division rivals square off in a 7:05 p.m. bout at The Blue Cross Arena. The matchup will be the second of 10 get-togethers this season and will be carried live on Sports 1280 WHTK.
