BUFFALO, N.Y. (November 29, 2012) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced that MSG will continue its lineup of Sabres programming on Monday nights with the premiere of another classic game on Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. The night’s broadcast will feature the Sabres’ game against the Quebec Nordiques from December 23, 1989, in which Sabres defenseman Phil Housley recorded five points to tie a franchise record.

After winning their first two matchups against the Nordiques that season, the Sabres traveled to Quebec for a midseason divisional matchup and quickly jumped to a 4-1 lead by the middle of the second period. Quebec battled back to keep it a close game but were eventually overpowered by the Sabres, who won in a 6-5 decision. Powering Buffalo’s scoring attack was Housley, who notched five points (1+4), tying the franchise mark for most points in a game by a defenseman. The first Sabres defenseman to record five points in a game was John Van Boxmeer in 1981.

Housley, who was inducted into the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame in 2007, will provide commentary throughout the two-hour broadcast.

Prior to the classic game broadcast, MSG will show another re-airing of “Buffalo Sabres: French Connection Statue Unveiling” at 7 p.m.

Viewers in the Buffalo and Rochester markets will be able to watch the programming on MSG, while viewers in the Syracuse, Binghamton and Albany markets can watch on the MSG+ network. DirecTV subscribers can view Monday’s classic game broadcast on channels 638 and 638-1(HD).
