SABRES PROSPECTS REPORT
Christian Isackson (2010, seventh round) picked up a pair of assists over the weekend, including one on Sunday as No. 4 Minnesota steamrolled No. 1 Boston College 8-1 to capture the 2012 Mariucci Classic; Dan Catenacci (2011, third round) extended his streak of consecutive games with a goal to four Sunday as Owen Sound doubled Oshawa 4-2.

With the Christmas break coming to an end for both junior and college teams, that means it’s back to work for several Sabres prospects. Here’s a quick look at what they’ve accomplished over the past few days.

NCAA
Christian Isackson
(2010, seventh round) picked up a pair of assists over the weekend, including one on Sunday as No. 4 Minnesota steamrolled No. 1 Boston College 8-1 to capture the 2012 Mariucci Classic. In Saturday’s semifinal victory over Air Force, the sophomore forward made a nice play by speeding to a loose puck and quickly dishing it to a crashing Ryan Reilly to give the Gophers a 2-0 lead. The 20-year-old Isackson now has 11 points (2+9) in 19 games for Minnesota this season.

WHL
Colin Jacobs
(2011, fourth round) batted a puck out of mid-air for a goal Saturday, but Prince George squandered a third-period lead in a 4-3 shootout loss at Victoria. The Cougars’ top offensive producer, Jacobs has collected seven points in five games since returning from a November suspension.

Victoria Royals forward Logan Nelson (2012, fifth round) did not return after suffering a leg injury in the first period of Friday’s game with Prince George. The Royals’ second-leading scorer, Nelson remained out for Saturday’s rematch with the Cougars, with his playing status for the week ahead being evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

OHL
Dan Catenacci (2011, third round) extended his streak of consecutive games with a goal to four Sunday as Owen Sound doubled Oshawa 4-2. With a pair of one goal and one assist efforts last week, Catenacci finished the 2012 portion of the schedule with multiple points in 17 of 36 appearances. Catenacci currently places sixth overall in league scoring with 51 points (21+30).

Saginaw centerman Justin Kea (2012, third round) emerged from the break with an assist in each of the Spirit’s two games, elevating his season point total to 28 (11+17) through 37 contests. The grinding forward has scored just one of his 11 goals this season while on the power play.

Belleville defenseman Brady Austin (2012, seventh round) set up the game-winning goal Saturday as the Bulls edged Kitchener 3-2. Leveraging his previous experience as a winger, Austin followed the play deep into the zone and found a teammate from behind the net for his 14th point (2+12) of the year.

USHL
Judd Peterson (2012, seventh round) recorded a goal and two helpers Saturday as Cedar Rapids dropped a 7-4 home-ice decision to Waterloo. The three-point outing was a personal best for Peterson in 23 games since entering the Junior A ranks, and gives him 15 points (6+9) on the year.

EUROPEAN LEAGUES
In Sweden, Linus Ullmark (2012, sixth round) remained in the reserve goaltender role as MODO’s top club claimed victory of two of three Elite League contests. It remains to be seen if Ullmark will shuttle back and forth with the J20 squad when SuperElit Top 10 play begins in January.
