BUFFALO, N.Y. (January 3, 2013) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced that MSG has scheduled another slate of Sabres programming on Monday nights for the first two weeks of January. A new classic game broadcast will premiere on Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. with the episode focusing on the Sabres’ double-overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens during the 1998 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Buffalo had already commanded a 2-0 series lead over their division rivals as the Eastern Conference semifinal round shifted to Montreal for Game 3. The Sabres and Canadiens traded goals to keep the game close and push it to extra periods with a 4-4 tie at the end of regulation. Sabres forward Michael Peca notched a goal in the first period of the game and then also put away the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to secure a Sabres victory. Peca, who served as Buffalo’s captain from 1997-2000, will provide commentary throughout the two-hour game broadcast.

Preceding the classic game broadcast on Jan. 7, MSG will re-air Buffalo Sabres: French Connection Statue Unveiling. The hour-long program, which begins at 7 p.m., was recorded during the Oct. 12 ceremony honoring the famed Sabres forward line with a statue outside of First Niagara Center. It features the night’s full proceedings, including speeches and interviews with Gilbert Perreault, Rene Robert and Cory Martin, the son of the late Rick Martin, as well as Sabres owner Terry Pegula.

The following Monday, Jan. 14, MSG will re-air the broadcast of the Sabres’ final game in Memorial Audtorium in which Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine helped Buffalo close out their celebrated arena with a 4-1 win against the Hartford Whalers. Another airing of Buffalo Sabres: French Connection Statue Unveiling will follow the broadcast at 10 p.m.

Viewers in the Buffalo and Rochester markets will be able to watch the programming on MSG, while viewers in the Syracuse, Binghamton and Albany markets can watch on the MSG+ network. DirecTV subscribers will be able to view only the classic game broadcasts on channels 638 and 638-1(HD).
