WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE (as of Monday, May 6, 2013)
Stay updated with the progress of Buffalo's five participants in the 2013 IIHF World Championship taking place in Helsinki and Stockholm until May 19.
A workhorse in the truest sense for Germany, Ehrhoff is averaging almost 31 minutes of ice time per game through his country’s first three outings – nearly 10 minutes higher than the next closest total. Ehrhoff has totaled one goal and one assist, and was named as Germany’s Best Player in their 4-1 loss to Russia on Sunday.
Vanek has just one point so far in a pair of games, and that was Austria’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to France on Sunday. He also has a team-high 10 shots, and is averaging 18:23 of ice time. Austria returns to action on Tuesday against Latvia in a matchup of the Helsinki Pool’s only two winless squads.
Just like Ehrhoff with the German side, Sekera has been logging major minutes with Slovakia in their first three games. Sekera has skated a team-high 24:29 per game, while collecting one assist and recording a single shot on goal for the 2-1-0 Slovaks. After playing three games in the tournament’s first four days, Slovakia is now off until they face Latvia on Thursday.
Enroth has split Sweden’s first two games with Jacob Markstrom, turning in a 17-save performance in their 2-1 win over Czech Republic on Saturday. He heads into Monday’s start against Belarus with a 1.00 GAA and .944 save%.
After traveling from Buffalo to Helsinki this weekend, Girgensons arrived in time to play in Latvia’s 4-1 loss to the United States on Sunday night. Wearing jersey number 59, Girgensons was held without a point in the game, but won six of 12 faceoffs and recorded one shot on goal in 16:44 of action.
